MODU Is Building for the Agentic Future

Vejle, Denmark — 2nd of March 2026

MODU Valves A/S, based in Vejle, Denmark, is building toward a clear ambition: to become the most digitized valve brand in the world. Not just digitally present, but structurally agent-ready. We are redesigning our product data, interfaces, and technical infrastructure so both humans and AI agents can interact with MODU products without friction, ambiguity, or manual workarounds. This is not a future-facing vision statement. It is an operational shift already underway.

At the core is rigorously structured, validated, and version-controlled product data. Every material specification, chemical compatibility rating, and technical parameter is being converted from static documents and fragmented knowledge into clean, machine-readable datasets. Our specifications are published in native, structured formats such as JSON and OpenAPI 3.0, allowing AI systems to query precise, authoritative answers in milliseconds. Our APIs are designed for autonomous workflows, supporting batch queries, pagination, and self-describing metadata so procurement systems, engineering tools, and AI agents can search, compare, and reason about MODU products directly. By eliminating copy-paste workflows and disconnected PDFs, we remove operational risk and latency from the specification process.

This approach reflects a broader shift in how industrial components are evaluated and procured. AI agents are increasingly participating in engineering comparisons, procurement workflows, and supply chain decisions. The companies that will lead are those whose data is structured, accessible, and trustworthy. MODU is building for that reality today. Our public, versioned REST API for chemical compatibility, covering more than 323 chemicals across 10 industrial materials, translates decades of valve expertise into a callable interface that anyone can use without API keys or gatekeeping at https://chemicals.modu-one.com/en/api.

VEJLE, DENMARK — 5TH OF FEBRUARY 2026

AI is changing data center design criteria, especially around mechanical reliability, scalability, and documentation. AI-driven facilities operate with sustained loads and tight environmental limits, which raises the bar for cooling and auxiliary systems. MODU Valves A/S supplies valve and automation solutions engineered for those high-density, mission-critical conditions.

AI data centers run at high utilization with narrow thermal margins. Cooling and auxiliary systems must operate continuously, support live maintenance, and scale as compute density increases. In that context, valves are no longer passive components. They drive uptime, energy efficiency, and expansion readiness.

Requirements

Mechanical systems are expected to deliver repeatable performance at constant load. Isolation must be tight and predictable to control leak risk. Pressure loss has to stay low to preserve pumping efficiency at high flow. Control valves must remain stable and accurate to protect temperature‑sensitive IT environments. Automation readiness is assumed, with clean actuator integration, deterministic fail‑safe behavior, and reliable feedback to BMS and SCADA.

Scalability is equally critical. Phased build‑outs, retrofits, and technology shifts require valve solutions that minimize welding, simplify reconfiguration, and shorten recommissioning. Documentation, certification access, and traceability are now commissioning‑critical requirements, not post‑project formalities.

Applications and fit

These requirements appear across core systems. Chilled water and glycol networks distribute cooling from central plants to CRAH and CRAC units, CDUs, and secondary loops. Heat rejection introduces cycling and pressure variation. Direct liquid cooling increases valve density on skids and manifolds. Make‑up water and treatment systems depend on tight isolation to maintain water quality. In facilities with steam humidification, valves must handle high temperatures, condensate, and transient operating states without compromising safety or control accuracy.

The MODU portfolio aligns with these use cases. Modular ball valve platforms deliver tight shutoff, fast field service, and standardized automation across distribution networks and skid‑mounted systems. Check valves protect pumps and parallel equipment during standby and failover. Strainers protect control valves, pumps, and heat exchangers from debris. Sight glasses provide rapid visual verification during operation and maintenance. Control valves maintain stable temperature and flow for heat exchangers, room control, bypass, and mixing. A comprehensive actuation and automation ecosystem keeps on‑off and modulating performance consistent across the facility.

Commercial program

To support hyperscale and colocation deployment models, MODU offers industry‑specific commercial markdowns tied to standardized specifications, volume, and repeatability. The goal is to reduce total installed cost, simplify procurement, and speed commissioning across multi‑phase projects.

When selecting seat rings (also called O-rings or sealing rings) for valves, engineers must focus on material properties to ensure reliable sealing, durability, and performance in demanding applications like oil and gas, chemical processing, or power generation. The choice hinges on temperature, pressure, and chemical compatibility. The most common seat ring materials – PTFE, CTFE, PEEK, and RPTFE – each bring distinct advantages, and understanding their differences is key to optimizing valve performance. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene, often branded as Teflon) is a go-to for its excellent chemical resistance and low friction, handling corrosive fluids like acids or bases across a temperature range of -100°F to 450°F (-73°C to 232°C). Its softness, however, makes it prone to deformation in high-pressure systems. CTFE (Chlorotrifluoroethylene, known as Kel-F) provides similar chemical resistance but with greater hardness, supporting higher pressures and temperatures up to 400°F (204°C). For harsher conditions, PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) offers exceptional mechanical strength and wear resistance, operating up to 480°F (249°C), though its rigidity demands precise machining. RPTFE (Reinforced PTFE), bolstered with additives like glass or carbon, enhances strength while retaining chemical inertness, making it ideal for steam or hydrocarbon applications. The table below summarizes the critical properties to guide material selection:
Material Temperature Range Key Traits Applications
PTFE -100°F to 450°F (-73°C to 232°C) Chemically inert, low friction, soft Corrosive fluids, low pressure
CTFE Up to 400°F (204°C) Chemical resistance, harder High pressure, corrosive media
PEEK Up to 480°F (249°C) High strength, wear-resistant High temp, abrasive conditions
RPTFE -100°F to 450°F (-73°C to 232°C) Strong, chemically resistant Steam, hydrocarbons, moderate pressure

  • Flow direction arrow – install aligned with the flow direction.
  • Batch traceability code – batch-level identification for full traceability.

Ball valve end connections define how the valve interfaces with the piping system, directly influencing installation method, pressure rating, maintenance access, and sealing integrity. The most common connection types are threaded (BSP/NPT), flanged (EN 1092 / ASME B16.5), welded (butt or socket), and clamped (tri-clamp or sanitary ferrule). Selection is governed by process pressure, temperature, media type, and service accessibility. From a procurement standpoint, the connection specification must align with the project’s piping class, dimensional standard, and corrosion allowance to ensure full compliance and mechanical compatibility across the system.

Threaded ball valves (BSP or NPT) are primarily used in small-bore, low-pressure applications such as instrumentation and utility lines. They are compact and easy to install but limited by thread leakage potential and torque transmission in high-pressure systems. Flanged ball valves—in both full- and reduced-bore designs—are standard in process and pipeline service where bolted joints simplify maintenance and replacement. The flange face type (RF, FF, RTJ) must match the mating pipe flanges to ensure sealing integrity under pressure cycling. For permanent, high-integrity installations, weld-end valves (butt-weld or socket-weld) provide leak-free joints capable of withstanding vibration and thermal stress, making them preferred in critical service or high-pressure steam systems.

In hygienic, food, or pharmaceutical service, clamp or sanitary connections are used for quick assembly and cleaning without thread or gasket dead zones. These connections typically conform to ISO, DIN, or ASME BPE standards, allowing interchangeability between manufacturers. Procurement engineers must carefully verify end type, size standard (DIN vs. ASME), pressure class (PN or Class rating), and material compatibility before issuing inquiries or purchase orders. Proper specification ensures that valves integrate mechanically and dimensionally with the piping system, reducing installation risks and ensuring long-term sealing reliability.

Ball valves are produced in several configurations depending on the mechanical support of the ball, bore geometry, and flow control requirements. The floating ball valve relies on pressure-induced downstream sealing, making it ideal for small to medium sizes and low to medium pressures. The trunnion-mounted ball valve, on the other hand, uses upper and lower trunnions to absorb hydraulic loads, maintaining alignment and reducing seat wear. Trunnion designs are standard in high-pressure pipeline applications (e.g., API 6D valves above DN150), where predictable torque and double block-and-bleed functionality are required. From an engineering and procurement perspective, the choice between floating and trunnion-mounted configurations determines actuator sizing, stem torque margins, and sealing integrity under differential pressure.

Flow capacity and control characteristics are defined by bore geometry and angular travel. A standard on/off ball valve operates through a 90° rotation, moving the bore from fully open (0°) to fully closed (90°) with a quarter-turn motion. This design enables rapid shut-off and compact actuation. In contrast, V-port (or segment) balls introduce a machined V-shaped bore—typically 30°, 60°, or 90°—allowing controlled, non-linear flow regulation. The V-profile ensures precise modulation: a 30° V-port provides fine low-flow control (linear characteristic), while a 90° port offers a higher capacity with an equal-percentage curve suitable for proportional control loops. Actuators used in such applications often feature positioners or feedback systems to achieve accurate flow modulation across the full 0–90° rotation range, while the valve’s Cv (flow coefficient) curve must be verified against process requirements.

Material and surface engineering considerations are critical for long-term performance and lifecycle cost. Soft-seated valves (PTFE, RPTFE, PEEK) are appropriate for clean service and low torque applications, while metal-seated valves—featuring tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, or Stellite coatings—are required for high-temperature, abrasive, or throttling duties. In modulating service, hard-coated balls paired with metal seats prevent erosion at partial openings. Procurement specifications should therefore explicitly define the V-angle, rotation range, seat material, coating specification, and applicable standards (e.g., API 6D, ISO 5208, NACE MR0175). Matching the valve configuration, flow geometry, and materials to service conditions ensures reliable sealing, predictable torque behavior, and optimized total cost of ownership.
